My confession...

Hi Folks!

My hair journey has definitely had its ups and downs. I made a decision to go natural about eh.. six months ago. I wanted to get back to me. Then I realized I found a few tricks and ended up with bad transition hair. I cracked.. literally, I went to my girl Tinka and said Perm it! I can't take it. So here is my confession... I gave up on natural. I realize that it was going to take more than watching YouTube videos to manage this head of hair. So I've decided to go to the hair shop at least once a month. Oh. I was also on the save money, I can pamper myself bit as well. Well sometimes a sistah needs some help! Trying to stay sexy, savy and frugal is a hard task. I promise not to turn into the girl from "Friends with money" where she stalks the beauty counters for the free samples. But I will try to stay abreast of the latest beauty trends... at least the ones that work for me.

So until next time...

Stay beautiful!

Day 2: 40 Days.. 30 min

When I decide to work out, I get totally pumped up! I'm focused, and I have a plan. Somewhere around two weeks my motivation slips from my grasp, I begin cheating on my diet and it all goes to heck! I've started this series of 40 day challenges so I can make small steps toward my physical well-being. The first 40 days began with lent, I gave up red meat. Actually it wasn't so hard, I didn't miss it at all. Turkey burgers for me please!!  I struggled with what my next 40 day challenge was going to be. No bread, no starch.... arg! Finally it hit me! Instead of giving up something, I'd do something... 40 days of 30  min of walking. Yesterday I went to this park in Kettering and walked around for about 30 minutes. It felt good. This morning I DRAGGED my self out of bed ( I had to stay up and watch my President, Obama report that Osama bin-Laden was dead...which kept me up until about 1 am) and went to the campus rec and walked on the treadmill at and average of 3.6 mph for 20 min, then back to my apartment. Total time 33 minutes. Not bad. In fact I was feeling sexy just listening to my music on the treadmill.. partially dancing, partially walking.. it was fun! I realized in 20 minutes that I really do like working out. So I'm praying today that God will continue to give me the strength to get up in the morning and do something simple... walk for 30 minutes. Take my mind off all the things I have to do and just walk. Not think about how I don't have time...but just walk... for 30 minutes!

I'm going to try and blog about my 40 day journey. Can't say I'll write every day but I'll keep ya updated!

Until next time!

Top 10 Reasons why YOU should cook your meal

Hi Folks!

As I began my fitness journey a few years ago. I signed up for all these websites and magazines. I figured I'd educate myself. As a self proclaimed nerd, I typically look at a book to teach me how to do something. I'm branching out to websites too.

This one came across my twitter today from womenfitness.net. Top 10 Reasons why YOU should cook your meal. Over the past few months I've been focused on cooking. Partly because I love it. Secondly because its healthier. I'm also trying to support a more healthy eating lifestyle to my sweet-tooth having boyfriend!

I'll try to post some recipes as I play around with some things. I'll share my turkey chilli recipe. It should keep you warm over the winter. I've added a bit of hot sauce and splenda to mine. (I like it slightly sweet and spicy) but you can leave those out. If you want to stretch it out. you can add a pasta... or rice.  you decide.

Enjoy!

Pre-Workout Snacks: the art of Smart Snacking

Hi Folks!

I've been trying to find just the right foods to eat before my workout so I don't faint on the elliptical. Because lets be honest that wouldn't be a good look and I'd be bruised up and embarrassed. So far eating a banana is working for me.. I tried drinking about 8oz of orange juice and it was too acidic for me.. so I'm testing some things out.

Here is a helpful website about smart snacking that seems helpful. I'm going to try some of these snacks out this next week and I'll let you know how it worked!

Real Love...Real Workout!

Hi Folks!

Just a fun post today. I was reading my fellow blogger Courtney and she had a video she used to do when she was younger.

This is the Jody Watley video (snippet) I used to do with my Aunt when I was little.

I still sorta remember the moves.

Real Love! Gotta Love Jody Watley!

Until next time.....

Stay Real!
